How to connect to the i4 Office VPN

Step 1 - download and install the sonicwall connection app

Step 2 - setup the VPN connection

Windows:

  • Click on the windows icon
  • click on "Settings"
  • click on "Network and Internet"
  • click on "VPN" in the left column
  • click on "Add a VPN Connection"
  • Select "SonicWall MObile Connect" in the VPN provider drop down
  • Type "i4 Office" in the "connection name" textbox
  • enter "https://173.10.24.26:4433" in the "server name or address" textbox
  • be sure the "remember my sign-in info" checkbox is checked
  • Click "Save" (you will enter yuour username and password when you log in - you can't enter it in this step)
  • click on "connect" under the i4 office (you might need to click on the connection to see this button)
  • when prompted with the warning, "the identity of the VPN server could not be verified..." click on "Next"
  • You will be prompted to sign in - enter the user name and password you were given
  • The first time you sign in you will be prompted to change your password - please create a new password.

Mac

  • Run the app installed in step 1
  • Click on "add Connection" in the "connection" drop down box
  • Enter "i4 Office" in the "Name" textbox
  • Enter "https://173.10.24.26:4433" in the "server" textbox
  • click "Next"
  • Enter your username and password (you will be prompted to change your password the first time you connect)
  • Domain should be set to "Local Domain"
  • click "Save"
  • Click "allow" on the "sonic wall mobvile connect would like to add VPN configuration" dialog box
  • click "Connect"

For Macs you will need to install the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. Go to the App Store and search "Microsoft Remote Desktop" and install the app - it is free.

Having a Problem?

Make sure you are still connected to the VPN

  • click on the network icon in your system tray (next to the clock on the bottom of the desktop)
  • click on "i4 Office"
  • in the VPN window that opens if you see a button that says "connect" you are not connected - click the "connect" button.
  • If you see a button that says "disconnect" try clicking that then clicking on "connect" after it appears to reset the connection.
  • When all else fails, try restarting your computer (have you tried turning it off and back on again)
  • after it restarts you will need to reconnect to the VPN - follow these instructions to connect again.

The following steps are only necessary if you plan to run Quickbooks on your local computer and load the i4 file from the accounting computer - THIS IS VERY SLOW! It is better to remote into one of the remote QB computers instead: Instructions


 

Step 3 - Update your Host File with the IP address for the Accounting computer

Windows

  • click the window icon
  • scroll to and click on "windows Accessories"
  • RIGHT click on "Notepad"
  • click on "More" in the dialog box that appears
  • click on "Run as Administrator"
  • Click on "File"
  • navigate to "c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc" and change the file types to "*.* (all)"
  • open "hosts"
  • Add the following to the end of the host file:
    • 172.16.1.42 accounting3
  • save the file

Mac

  • Go to Applications > Utilities > Terminal
  • Type "sudo nano /private/etc/hosts" and hit "enter"
  • Enter your computer password
  • You will need to use your arrow keys to move around this editor - Mouse does not function. 
  • add the follwoing to the host file: 
    • 172.16.1.42 accounting3
  • Save (cmd+x)

Step 4 - Map the network drive to the accounting computer

  • open your file explorer
  • RIGHT click on "This PC"
  • click on "map network drive"
  • Select "I" in the "drive" dropdown
  • enter "\\accounting3\bookkeeping" in the "folder" textbox
  • check the "connect using different credentials" checkbox
  • click "finish"
  • enter "i4\" followed by your domoain login username (you may have to click "more choices" followed by "Use a
  • different account" to change the user name)
  • enter your domain password
  • check the "remember my credentials" checkbox
  • click "ok"

Step 5 - Install Quickbooks
